The Ribbon has been Cut

On July 9 we celebrated the Grand Opening of the Waterford Insurance Agency Community Garden Project with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. With the help of the Waterford Chamber of Commerce and many donors, a continental breakfast was served to our many guests. As you can see many of the vegetables are starting to mature and we are pleased that soon we will be able to start making donations.

Garden History and Purpose

The garden idea was the result of many things all coming together. The two most important were a growing interest in community gardening and a local economy that places more people in a position where there is "too much month left after the money has run out."

The idea is to allow local people or organizations the opportunity to adopt a plot of land to plant, harvest and donate vegetables and fruit to Waterford citizens who are in need. If you know of someone or an organization that might be interested, please have them contact Richard Berkfield at 248-682-0044.

There is more to this: growing and eating locally grown vegetables is good for you and good for your neighbors. Our goal is to encourage people to grow their own vegetables and also to purchase them from farmers in our area. Visit the Oakland County Farmer's Market to purchase your vegetables and you will fuel yourselves and the local economy all at once!
